Trust is an amazingly powerful thing. But with great trust comes great responsibility. Last week we had an amazing launch with the ShoeMoney System. We sold out the entire initial 500 seats in one day. Truly humbling. I should jump for joy right? I mean I just made 100k in a day. But instead I felt sick. Its the same feeling I get when people pay $5,000.00 a seat to come to the Elite Retreat or any other product I launch. 75% of the people who purchased the ShoeMoney System had already purchased something from us. They loved their previous experience and they trust we will deliver another amazing product.

So yes, even I get a little queasy and nervous after selling to people that trust me. But then I think about the last year of work we put into the product, the 6 months of 20+ beta testers we had testing the product, our partners like Facebook, Myspace, Yahoo, Google, Microsoft and many others telling us what a remarkable product we have built and how they feel it's truly the first legitimate make money online offer out there... and once again I feel invulnerable. It's really majestic the way you feel when you really believe in your product.

But this newsletter is about trust... not about me and I don't want to make it about me.

Lets look at others who have earned a great deal of trust.

Mike Arrington started a blog (he used to be the only writer) years ago called TechCrunch. Its now the largest blog in the world with almost 5 million RSS readers. I really like the way Mike Arrington writes and I connect with him on a personal level. I love the way he fights for what he believes in (as unpopular as it sometimes might be) and how he gives his raw opinion on stuff. I remember talking to Guy Kawasaki once about his alltop.com website and he said he asked Mike Arrington to write about it on his Techcrunch Blog.... Mike did... but not in a very nice way. The one thing you can trust about Mike is that he will "keep it real".

Mike Arrington has been earning my trust for years. And when last fall he announced they were going to be making a touchpad mobile computing device called the crunchpad I was all in. I would honestly buy a piece of cardboard with a techcrunch logo on it if they sold them. It doesn't really matter what it is to be honest. I trust that whatever Mike Arrington is going to put his name on is going to be a great product.

Speaking of touch pads Apple just announced they are coming out with a multitouch mobile computing device called the iPad. Where can I order.

We recently just had an internal discussion about the iPad and all of its shortfalls. Then I took a brief poll around the room and asked who is NOT going to buy it. Not one person raised their hands. We are all Apple NUTS here at ShoeMoney and despite a lot of public criticism and even our own personal concerns we will be first in line to buy the iPad when it is released. We trust Apple will make an amazing product.

There are tons of public companies and figures that have built trust.

Think Oprah has trust? A brief mention of your book on Oprah's show means you're going to the Best Seller lists.

What about Google? Google could put its name on anything and people would buy it. They have been building trust with people for years. And now they are capitalizing on it big time with products outside their core scope.... products like the new Google Nexus One phone and the soon to be released Google Chrome operating system (and there's talk of a touchpad by Google).

Why do you think celebrity endorsements cost so much and deliver such amazing results? Because they have earned the trust of their followers and their followers want to buy things that they recommend.

So thats great and all but what about you? How can you earn trust?

For years I had heard of a guy named Andy Jenkins. He was the brains behind a product called Stompernet (a 20+ million dollar company). I also knew that he had won an emmy back in his days working for NFL films and read somewhere that he was one of the core video editors on some mainstream movies like The Blair Witch Project. But I had never met Andy In person... until a couple weeks ago.

Just as we were getting ready to launch the ShoeMoney System I got a call out of the blue from Andy Jenkins inviting me to this affiliate marketing event in Las Vegas. Now keep in mind I had already been in Vegas for 5 days that week... and this would mean I would only be home for 1 day before turning around and going back to this event that Andy invited me to. To make it even more complicated it would mean I would only be home for ONE day before we launched the ShoeMoney System.

But I believe in fate and honestly I feel when moments like this happen you have to make it work. So I made it work and went back out to Las Vegas.

From the minute I got there Andy started introducing me to some of the biggest and most famous internet marketers in the world. I was blown away. I was also blown away with the fact that a lot of them were ShoeMoney readers. But what really blew me away was that all Andy wanted to talk about was my upcoming launch of the ShoeMoney System. He wanted to know exactly how I was doing everything. He made me show him all my videos. And then he told me what I needed to do in order to really deliver on launch day. When I got home he had already made a 50 minute video where he went over our sales page and pointed out all the stuff we needed to change.

He then created a video from scratch that we used on one of the versions of the sales page. After the dust settled from the launch and we got to look at the analytics.... would you believe Andy's video sales page converted 4x better then any of our other versions? I just wish Google Website Optimizer was not so delayed and we would have known this on launch day. But we still hit our max capacity so all is good (and I learned a lot for the future).

After launching Andy kept calling me asking how things went and talked me though some stuff I had not thought of. Why was this guy doing this? Plain and simple he likes to help people.

And guess what? He has earned my trust. Probably for life. Anything this guy ever needs I will be there for him.

When I was thinking about publishing a book I would hit up Seth Godin for tips. I once asked him about pricepoints and stuff and he told me, "Don't make a book for money... A book is a simple free way to tell the world how smart you are".

Seth is another person who has earned my trust. Any book he ever sells you can bet I am buying. Hell I have a 800$ lithograph of the purple cow on my wall at work just to remind me to build products that are truly remarkable.

So start building trust. And when you have it - Be responsible with it. Trust is an amazing thing.

When it comes to email, you associate not only with the email marketing service you use to run your campaigns, but also with:

	Advertisers

How Other Companies Can Hurt Your Delivery Rates

ISPs consider many factors when deciding if they should put an email in the inbox or not.

Two of those factors are:

	Whether previous email messages from that sender generate a lot of spam complaints
	What content appears in the message - including links

We know from the first point that ISPs look at past emails, and whether they caused spam complaints, to decide what to do with future emails.

We also know that ISPs look not only at who is sending an email, but what content and links appear in that email.

Now combine those two facts. What do you get?

ISPs Block Emails With Spammy Links

Most of us would agree that ISPs block emails that contain certain "spammy" content.


	(Forgive me for oversimplifying a bit - many factors go into blocking/filtering an email and including one "spammy" word is not necessarily going to get you blocked. Hopefully you see the overall point I'm trying to make here.)

The classic example of this, of course, are emails promoting a certain well-known drug that starts with the letter V.

But why do ISPs block emails advertising that? How do they know those are spam?

They Listen To Their Users

Do ISPs have someone sit down and say, "OK, let's come up with a list of all the words and content a spammer would use in his/her emails?"

Certainly not - that would take a ridiculously long time, and would never be a complete list because spam tactics are constantly changing.

What they do, as noted above, is look at what emails are generating complaints.

If enough users complain about emails that link to a certain website, the ISP will associate that website with spam...

...And They'll Block Other Emails Linking To That Website!

And this is why you have to carefully vet:

	Advertisers
	Business Partners and Joint Venture Partners
	Anyone Else You Link To

If you link to a domain, even if it's just an ad that you're running in your email newsletter, and that domain has been tied to spam, your email can be blocked for linking to it.

Accidentally associate with spammers, even a little, and you make it easy for an ISP to think you're one, too.

Yep, you read that subject line correctly. I've got some exciting
news to share with you today. Let me explain more because I know
the subject of this email sounds a bit "fishy" or like a bunch of hype...

The past several months, we've been 'covertly' building a massive
network of blogs and sites that "we" can post our article content

Free Traffic by David Watson

Writing articles is one of the easiest and most effective ways of
generating free traffic to your website and getting free
advertising, but it's not just a question of creating any article -
you have to create quality articles.

You have to make sure that you design your article in a way that
will impress the reader with both the article, and more
importantly, with you, the author.

So, how are you going to design a "Quality Article" ?

You have to make sure that you grab your readers' attention, so
make sure that you create a compelling headline.

Make sure that the headline is targeted for the type of reader you
want to attract. That might seem like common-sense, but it has been
proven that you only have a few seconds to grab your prospects
attention, so you have to make sure that the headline SPEAKS TO
THEM.

Make sure that the headline tells the reader what is in it for them
- that's really the burning question in everyone's mind whenever
they are reading ANYTHING online - "What's in it for me?"

There is a secret to making your article interesting, and this is
to make sure that you give away enough basic information to help
solve one piece of the reader's problem, but to keep back some
information and leave at least one piece of their problem unsolved.

This makes sure that they want more information on the topic you
have been discussing, and as you have already provided a partial
solution to their problem, they will look to you as an expert in
the field, and come to you for more information.

Tests have shown that the human mind needs "closure".

Think of a waiter at a restaurant.

It has been shown that, while the waiter is dealing with their
table, they can remember every individual item of the order. BUT,
within minutes of having delivered the completed order to the
table, they can no longer remember any details of the order - the
human mind has discarded the order data, because the order is
complete.

Build this technique into your articles. Make them informative, but
leave the reader asking for more.

This gives you an opportunity to offer them even more information
via your resource box on your article.

Once they have followed the link in your resource box, make sure
that you capture their name and email address, so that you can
continue marketing to them once they have completed their initial
visit to your site.

Follow up by email with additional information that they will find
interesting, and you will be able to create a bond of trust with
them, that will allow you to build a long-term relationship.

Although you want to leave the reader wanting more information, you
have to balance this against giving too little information.

If you don't give any useful information within your article, the
reader is not going to be enticed into visiting your site.

So make sure that your article contains a certain amount of good
quality content that you leave a favourable impression on the
reader, and make them believe you are a useful source of
information about their problem - AND, even more importantly, that
you have THE SOLUTION that they are looking for.

Once you have completed your article, submit it to several article
directories, and start building up your credibility as an author.

Callen: Increase Web Traffic

After doing this for over 4 years, I've tried just about every known
way to get traffic to my websites. And to be quite honest, most of
what "marketing" is all about is getting people to see your offer.

Once they see it, your gears switch from marketing to sales. So
when we think about internet marketing, it's really "how can we get
more and more people to see our offer?" From there, our mindset
should change from thinking as an internet marketer to thinking
as an internet salesman.

I think that's why starting an online business is a lot harder
than a lot of people make it out to be. Let's be honest... It's
tough to get people to your website. Traffic doesn't just happen
over night. Once the visitors start coming... well, then the sales
part is a breeze. It's the "internet marketing" part that can be
difficult and downright discouraging.

I've been doing this online thing full-time for over 4 years now,
and I've literally tried just about every single traffic-generating
strategy you can think of. Aside from joint ventures (and that is
usually just a quick, short-term burst of traffic), the single best
way to get long-term traffic is through the search engines.

There are several reasons why.
- the people visiting your sites from search engines are highly
targeted. Think about it, they were essentially searching for YOUR
site.

- It's free! You can't beat that, right?

- Everyone uses search engines to find what they're looking for.
So your market potential is HUGE!

- Did I mention that organic search engine traffic is free?

There are several ways to increase your site's rankings in the
search engines, but what I've found to be the absolute best way is
to get loads of ONE-WAY "backlinks" pointing to your site. This
tells the search engines, like Google, that your site is
important. The more links there are pointing to your site, the
higher your search engine rankings will be. PERIOD!

From my own experience, I've found article marketing to be THE best
way to get backlinks to your site.

More backlinks = higher search engine rankings = more traffic! It
doesn't get much simpler than that.

So how do you get these one-way backlinks? Easy... Article Marketing

The idea behind article marketing is that you write an article on a
similar topic to your website, add a link inside the article that
points to your website, submit that article to several of the
biggest article directories online, and then sit back and watch how
well-dispersed those links become across the internet.

The problem I used to have was spending my entire day writing
article after article. It took way too long, and I hated writing
to begin with. So the next thing I did was I hired a writer to do
it for me. It took me a really long time to find a good, quality
writer I could trust... and once I did, I was spending an arm and a
leg.

So I thought, I'll just have my programmer create an article
writing and spinning software program for me that would take my
old, plr articles and write new ones. I tried all of the other
"spinners" out there, and they were (in my honest opinion) total
Crap!

After several months of programming, adding all of the features
that I personally needed, and then doing fine-tune tweaking even
further, I started using my own software to rewrite individual
articles into literally hundreds of other UNIQUE articles.

The end result: I only had to spend a few minutes to produce loads
of quality and unique content that I could submit to article
directories.

After just a few months, I started seeing my sites in the top 5
positions for VERY competitive keywords. And this has continued
for a very long time. This isn't like joint venture traffic that
is a single burst of visitors. This is LONG-TERM. Do you think
it's brought a lot of traffic my way?

Absolutely! Once the traffic started coming, "selling" was the
easy part.

I originally created this software for my personal use, but then
thought... what the heck, I've seen some great advances in my own
business so why not share this with you.

So I had a graphic designer make the software interface look nice
and pretty and I created a site so that you too can start building
more long-term traffic to your sites.
